HIV cure con
In 2007, Jammeh claimed that he has the powers to cure HIV. He used a concoction of different herbs, which he applied to a patient in front of cameras in his presidential palace in Banjul.
He had claimed that after 30 days, the patients will be completely cured, but on one condition: they stop taking the antiretroviral drugs.
Needless to say, the cure did not work and now the patients who were under Jammeh’s treatment are suing the former president for violation of their human rights.
The programme not only caused the death of patients but also hampered the fight against the disease in the country. Worse, it increased stigma against people living with HIV.
