Francois Tombalbaye – Chad
The first president of Chad started out as a teacher and ended up being one of Africa’s dictators. He consolidated power by getting rids of rivals in his party and eliminating political parties in the country. He also expelled Christian missionaries and required non-Muslim men aged 16-50 to undergo traditional face scarring rites known as yondo.
He became quite unpopular because of his actions and in 1975 a group of soldiers killed Tombalbaye and secretly buried his body in Faya.
