He held a number of traditional titles

In his lifetime, Shagari held various traditional titles. In 1962, he earned the title, Turaki, which referred to the officer at court at the Sokoto Sultanate. He also held the chieftaincy titles of the Ochiebuzo of Ogbaland, the Ezediale of Aboucha and the Baba Korede of Ado Ekiti.
