Five things you might have missed at the Queen of Soul’s funeral

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was laid to rest on August 31 in a service that took more than seven hours.

The funeral, which was broadcast live on the internet, was watched by hundreds of her fans, who sent their tributes and commented on the happenings using the hashtag #ArethaHomegoing.

Franklin passed away on August 16 after a long illness.  She had been hospitalised after her illness got serious but was later discharged and had been responding positively to treatment at home. Her death saddened many fans who sent in their tributes.

Family and friends thronged Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple for Franklin’s final journey. Their message of love and celebration of Franklin had many in tears.
