Ngazargamu
This was the capital of the Kanem–Bornu Empire that existed from around 1460 to 1809. Located west of Lake Chad in Nigeria, the city was a trade and learning centre and home to 20,000 inhabitants. It was however destroyed in 1809 during the Fulani Jihad.
