Africa has largely been seen as a violent continent, with cases of conflict both political and ethnic within countries.

The Law and Order Index, ranking countries according to the level of security, interviewed people from 182 countries worldwide to determine the most secure country in 2017.

The Gallup’s Law and Order Index asks pertinent questions such as:

In the city or area where you live, do you have confidence in the local police force?
Do you feel safe walking alone at night in the city or area where you live?
Within the last 12 months, have you had money or property stolen from you or another household member?
Within the past 12 months, have you been assaulted or mugged?
