Akim Toure, a 27-year-old Sierra Leonean-born IT specialist from Maryland, was gunned down when he reportedly tried to protect a woman during an August 3 incident.
Photos of a male suspect linked to the shooting have since been shared by the Metropolitan Police Department, NBC4 Washington reported. The fatal incident is said to have occurred on New Jersey Avenue and close to the parking garage of YOTEL.
Police said they extracted the suspect’s photos from surveillance cameras. Authorities also said that the fatal incident occurred because of a verbal altercation over a woman at what was said to be a rowdy pool party on the hotel’s roof top.
Toure, who relocated to the United States from Sierra Leone at a young age, was gunned down as he attempted to protect a woman, his family said. Toure sustained multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
“It was maybe a five minute discussion or argument that happened and what they don’t understand is who they took from us,” the deceased victim’s cousin, Alexcia Bobb-Williams, said. “He wasn’t a bad guy at all. If you go on his LinkedIn, he is a corporate guy. He works for so many IT companies.”

The deceased victim’s family are calling for justice. “I want justice for my son, justice for my son,” Toure’s mother told NBC4 Washington.
“We don’t even know the girl that he was standing up for,” Bobb-Williams also said. “Nothing, we don’t have anything yet, and it’s crazy because it’s literally a couple of minutes from the Capitol and there is a fire station literally right next to it and I don’t understand how my cousin lay on the ground and passed away.”
Toure’s mother and sister became his priority after he lost his father a few years back, his family said. “Literally always looking at the next convention to go to,” Bobb-Williams said. “Just anything to level up and help his family.”
