Rich Homie Quan’s cause of death revealed

The Fulton County Medical Examiner in Georgia has ruled rapper Rich Homie Quan died as a result of an accidental drug overdose. Per TMZ, the medical examiner in its report stated that the rapper, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died from the effects of the combination of multiple drugs including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine.

The report additionally stated that there were no signs of trauma on his body at the time of his death and during examination. And though THC was also found in the late rapper’s system, it was determined he did not die as a result of cannabis. 

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Rich Homie Quan passed away in his Atlanta home on Thursday, September 5. He was 33. The rapper was pronounced dead after his girlfriend found him unresponsive in their Atlanta home.

The Fulton County medical examiner in a subsequent statement said that the Grady Memorial Hospital informed them about his death, per PEOPLE. He subsequently underwent an autopsy on Friday, September 6.

The medical examiner at the time stated that the late rapper’s “cause and manner of death” were “pending the completion of laboratory studies and microscopic examination of tissue slides.”

Rich Homie Quan was a well-known rapper in his hometown of Atlanta. He shot into the limelight with hit songs including Type of Way and Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh). He also collaborated with several mainstream artists including Young Thug, Birdman, YG, Jeezy, 2 Chainz, and Gucci Mane.

Following his death, his family in a statement to PEOPLE touched on his musical legacy and also expressed their gratitude for the support they received. 

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024 the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend. Known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented for the A as he and his music traveled across this globe,” his family said in the statement.

“While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on. Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful. Celebration of life details will be shared soon. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support at this difficult time.”

The late rapper is survived by four sons and a daughter. His funeral service took place in South Fulton, Georgia, on September 17. His family also recently released a posthumous music video for his single, Song Cry.
