A 60-year-old former middle school teacher, who was jailed for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old girl, was killed by a convicted murderer and a fellow inmate in his prison cell in North Carolina.
Per WITN, the fatal Sunday incident occurred at the Greene Correctional Institution. The body of the deceased inmate, identified as Ernest Nichols, was found in his cell block around 6 a.m.
The inmate linked to his killing was identified as Wilbert Baldwin, and the Green County Sherriff’s Office on Tuesday served him with a murder warrant in connection with the fatal incident.
Baldwin is serving time for second-degree murder following a 2010 conviction. Nichols, on the other hand, was convicted of statutory rape in 2011.
Per WBTV, Nichols was a physical education instructor at Ransom Middle School in north Charlotte when he was arrested and charged in connection with repeatedly raping the teen girl.
A search warrant stated that Nichols had repeatedly raped the 15-year-old from 2008. The warrant stated that Nichols also occasionally watched the teen girl having consensual sex with a different male.
The warrant stated that Nichols pretended to be his son on Facebook and asked his victim to come up with sexual stories. He also asked for other requests, including telling her to “text message Nichols whenever she entered the shower.”
Authorities said that Nichols committed the crimes in his home, and the teen girl was not enrolled at Ransom Middle School. The warrant stated that the teen victim’s mother confronted Nichols prior to his arrest, and she said that he described himself as a “pig.”
The deceased 60-year-old was scheduled to be released from prison in September 2027.
