Singer and actress Teyana Taylor recently provided an update on her relationship with her former label boss, Kanye West, saying that they are on good terms despite the controversies that he has stoked over the years.
Taylor, 35, was previously signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music record label. But almost five years ago, the K.T.S.E. singer registered her displeasure with the way the label was treating her, claiming that she felt “underappreciated.”
But in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Taylor said that she and Kanye are currently not at odds with each other.
“I don’t have to agree with everything that he do or say, but I’m not going to, like, abandon him and be like, ‘Yeah, eff that m*therf*cker,’” the One Battle After Another star said. “My brothers do sh*t that I don’t agree with…. I don’t get into none of that.”
Taylor also emphasized that she does her stuff behind the scenes and doesn’t back away from directly telling Kanye how she feels.
“If you want a real answer, you ask me. So if he asks me something, he knows he’s gonna get a real answer,” she said about Kanye.
“I do my s*it behind the scenes and do what I need to do to help,” she added. “I’m in my business and I drink my water.”
This year kicked off on a good note for Taylor, as she won her first Golden Globe for her outstanding supporting performance in One Battle After Another.
Taylor delivered an emotional speech when she took the stage to accept her Golden Globe award. She shared a message to “brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight.”
The 35-year-old actress declared, “Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into, our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”
