Somali-American model Halima Aden has nabbed the July cover of Teen Vogue.  Aden also featured on the May cover of British Vogue to become the first hijab-wearing or hijabi model to do so in the magazine’s 102-year history.

Aden was also recently bestowed with the prestigious position of UNICEF Ambassador.

The 20-year-old was born in 1997 in a Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya. She then relocated with her family to St. Cloud, Minnesota.

In 2016, Aden made massive headlines by competing in the Miss Minnesota USA and modelling in burkini – a modest swimsuit for women and a hijab – a scarf adorning the head.

In 2017, she signed a three-year modelling contract with IMG models and has since appeared on the cover of Allure, Vogue Arabia, American Eagle, and British Glamour. She has also walked the runway for Maxmara and Alberta Ferretti.
