Jamie Foxx made a triumphant return to the stage after many years, following his recent medical emergency. The actor and comedian performed in Atlanta, marking his first time back since the incident last year.

Foxx opened up about his health scare during his Atlanta performance, sharing his emotions in an Instagram post along with photos from the event. In one image, he appears to be wiping away tears.

Captioning the photos, the 56-year-old wrote: “God is good…. As I post these pictures, my heart and soul are filled with nothing but pure joy. On October 3, 4, and 5, I had the opportunity to tell my side of the story, and there was no better place than Atlanta, Georgia. I have to thank you, Atlanta—you showed up, and you showed out. I haven’t been on stage in 18 years, but I needed the stage and an audience made up of nothing but pure love, and that’s what you were.”

He continued: “When people ask me if this is a stand-up comedy show, I say no—it’s an artistic explanation of something that went terribly wrong. But thanks to the great people in Atlanta, especially Piedmont Hospital, you enabled me to come back and do what I love most. #nobaddays, as my guy James would say. #secondchance ❤️❤️❤️???????????? Thank you, ATLANTA.”

Foxx’s health battle began in April 2023, when he faced a life-threatening medical emergency, though specifics were not initially shared by him or his family. In July, Foxx revealed more about the incident in a video, explaining that he experienced a “bad headache” on April 11, 2023, and asked his friend for an Advil. After that, he was “gone for 20 days.” He said, “I don’t remember anything,” and explained that his sister and daughter took him to a doctor, who ultimately recognized something more serious was happening.

In March, Foxx announced that he planned to address the incident on stage, stating, “Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I gotta do it in my way.” He later revealed plans for a one-man show that would share his journey through the health scare, blending humor, heart, and inspiration.

However, in his Instagram post, Foxx described the show not as a stand-up comedy act but rather “an artistic explanation” of what went wrong. He also thanked the medical team at Piedmont Hospital for helping him return to what he loves most.

Speaking with Gayle King, who attended one of his shows, Foxx admitted that his “wounds” were “excruciating,” and he was anxious about how the audience would react. Foxx also confirmed the show is being taped, and King shared that it’s part of a Netflix special.

Foxx humorously added in the video: “I am never going to go through this again. My next jokes will start with, ‘Knock knock.'”
