Patrice Motsepe (South African)

Patrice Motsepe was born in 1962 in Soweto, South Africa’s largest slum. His father was a schoolteacher turned businessman. It was from his father’s Spaza shop (informal retail shop common among miners in South Africa) that Patrice acquired his entrepreneurial skills. In 1994, Patrice joined Bowman Gilfillan law firm, having graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a law degree. He later founded African Rainbow Minerals, one of the largest mining companies in South Africa. His net worth is estimated to be $2.9 billion.
